To a lot of people, the title of this post, “Bucky Cap” probably doesn’t mean much. “Bucky Cap” is how most of us described Captain America’s former sidekick, Bucky, when he became the new Captain America a few years ago during the “Death of Captain America” story. That sentence looks rather silly.
The thing about Bucky being Captain America was he was a cool character. But, we all knew he couldn’t be Cap forever because, hey, there was this awesome movie coming out with the original Cap, Steve Rogers. Now, time for some spoilers: Bucky has died recently in the comics during the big “Fear Itself” story. As much as I lament that, the thing that really cheeses me off is we just got the action figure for Bucky Cap!
In the comic series of the Captain America action figures accompanying the movie, we finally got an action figure of Bucky in his Cap uniform. (There was a special edition exclusive Bucky Cap that was not wide released, so I don’t really count it.) The action figure hit stores after Bucky was killed.
Not only was there poor timing, but the figure kinda sucks in a major way. It comes with a dumb gimmicky shield. The sculpt of the figure is great, but this dumb shield is so heavy, the figure can’t stand while holding it!
Now, there is another Bucky Cap repaint, a worst repaint in my opinion, that comes with a Crossbones in a two-pack. That one has a normal shield, but it’s paint scheme in nonmetallic and more saturated, unlike the costume in the comics.
It seems like Bucky just can’t catch a break.
